Worn Down and Disconnected

All of my life I have grown up in church. I have come accustom to being in church most Sundays and experiencing amazing encounters with God each week. I have been blessed to currently be apart of an amazing church in Omaha Nebraska called My City Church. Its so amazing be apart of something that is bigger than yourself and focused on reaching lost people.

However, somewhere between the chase of people, and the busyness of life, I have somewhat lost the realness of Gods presence. This last Sunday, I found myself in an amazing worship experience but seemed to struggle to connect with God for some reason. At one point I remember looking around the room and questioning what was wrong with me. Am I struggling with some hidden sin in my life? lol

During that moment, I chose to close my eyes, and just listen to what God was wanting to say to me. I then started to realize that I forgot that as much as God wants to meet the needs of others and meet with those around me, that most importantly God wanted to meet with me and speak to me directly, that he wants to refresh my soul, heart and mind.

I had recognized that my priorities one way or another had shifted. I had put others experience and encounter with the presence of God before my own. During the hustle and bustle of doing something very GOOD I would say GREAT even, I lost sight of why I do what I do. That I have the ability to love others because God FIRST LOVED ME! I think, for those of us to who serve at church, find ourselves in this place often, if we don't CHOOSE to make our personal relationship with God a priority, we can easily find ourselves feeling disconnected and worn out even.

So maybe today you find yourself feeling a little disconnected from God's presence, or you may not have heard God speak to you in a while, I want to encourage you to take 15 minutes of your day and refocus your attention back on him. To take a minute to quiet yourself before him and allow him to speak. There is this great verse in Proverbs and the Message version says it this way, "Listen for God's voice in everything you do; everywhere you go. He is the one who will keep you on track."

Let's learn to be better at listening to God and what he wants to say to us in our prayer life and during or personal worship time. He is waiting to speak to you, he is just looking for a listening ear.
